Radiation re-emission by greenhouse gases

Return to the simulation and activate Sign of charges. The charge sign of the atoms in a molecule results from the uneven distribution of electrons, as some atoms attract more electrons to themselves than others (a property called "electronegativity").

If you have paused the simulation, click on Play again.

Now observe how charged atoms move back and forth (“oscillate”) when hit by infrared radiation:

- Since these atoms are charged and oscillating, what will they produce in the space around them?

Hint: What does a single oscillating charge produce (see “What is light” tab)?
